First IAPSP Colloquium a Success

The first IAPSP online colloquium, "Current Experiences and Understandings of Therapeutic Action and Change in Self Psychology Today" (January 16-31, 2010) was a huge success! The colloquium provided members of the IAPSP community an unparalleled opportunity to "listen in" as some of our senior analysts exchanged ideas about therapeutic action and change and to enter a discussion on the subtleties and nuances involved in therapeutic dialogue. The colloquium format allowed respondents to bounce ideas off one another and to make clarifications and refinements in their thinking as the discussion progressed.

Judy Teicholtz's paper, "Qualities of Engagement and the Analyst's Theory," which was the centerpiece of the colloquium, served as a perfect platform for thought-provoking and engaging discussions by Jim Fosshage, Anna and Paul Ornstein, and Gianni and Suzi Nebbiosi . The first week featured a Faculty Roundtable Discussion on the central theme and main paper. Then, in the second week, all participants contributed their thoughts in separate discussion rooms. During the last weekend, the faculty summarized main points that emerged during the discussions and articulated questions, dilemmas, and ideas for further exploration.
